Sanford Robbins of the University of Delaware has been a key player in bringing a new resident professional acting company to the campus. This move makes it possible for students in the Professional Theater Training Program (PTTP) to have direct and regular contact with working professional actors. This is a unique approach and the regular contact with the professional theater scene is something often missing for students in many acting programs around the country.
The University of Delaware brought Sanford Robbins and the Professional Theater Training Program from Milwaukee in the late 1980s.

His directing credits include productions for the Alley Theatre, Oregon Shakespearean Festival, Utah Shakespearean Festival, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Los Angeles Shakespeare Festival, American Players Theatre, as well as multiple productions for the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, where he served for several years as a resident director.
